The Flute Loop

"... It's no where neer classical."

submission: The Flute Loop
date: November 27, 2008

This is like RnB or some sort of blues. Just because something has a flute in it doesn't mean it's classical.

The Beautiful Savage

"It's really nice, wish it was classical."

date: April 29, 2008

The melody was really nice and all, but this piece wasn't classical, it was rock. refer to a review i did on "-Human Feelings-" This is a rock song, the emphasis is on the second and forth beats, classical is on the first and third beats.

For example if you were to count through the beats in a classical song you would be distinctly draw to firstly count through the song in 4 beats, (making it 4/4 time signature) and count ONE, two, THREE, four. with the greatest emphasis on the first beat. in your song one is drawn to count one, TWO, three, Four. the heaviest emphasis on the second beat, making your song rock.

Author's Response:

I'll bet I'd get a lot more people complaining this is more classical than rock if I put it there. Besides... I know nothing of theory, so there is no way I'd know that.

Thanks for the insight though.

"Flat"

date: April 29, 2008

The sound quality wasn't very nice, sounded like a MIDI. The melody was nice at first, after the intro, but the bass line was then just too boomy and kinda hijacked the song, and then there was those little ding-a-ling things, they were horrible. The melody was quite nice at 3.00, but the bass was still quite boomy. No dynamics at all which is quite disappointing. sound quality was fine, everything is quite clear.

My scoring is split into 3 groups;
Sound quality - 2 points
Dynamics - 4 points
Melody - 4 points
= The 10 stars.

Your score;
Sound quality - 2
Dynamics (If you don't know what this means try google) - 0
Melody - 2
= 4

Can't wait to hear your next piece.

Author's Response:

I appreciate the feedback- yes, there is a lack of dynamics, but my dynamic contrast was more 1st half of the song/2nd half.

Will work on it more, constructive criticism makes the world go round. :D

Author's Response:

I experimented with a MIDI program because I've never used one of good quality before and i wanted to try something different from how i normally record my music.
There are many excellent MIDI programs out there and you'll find that the majority of the songs submitted to the audio portal involve MIDI sounds or programs in some way.
I also don't understand your scoring system...
Thanks for the review and feedback.

"Awesomeness"

date: April 25, 2008

HE HAS DYNAMICS!!! LOOK LOOK LOOK!!! I MEAN LISTEN!! HE HAS CRESCENDOS HE HAS DIMINUENDOS!! An awesome composition that absolutely took my breath away, except for the first 30 seconds, i thought it was a midi as some moments there :-S but it was uphill from then on! the fast paced excitement of the intro and beginning was brilliant, the off beats at about 1:20 kept me at the edge of my seat, and the general building feeling throughout the first half of the piece encapsulated me as i believe it would any other listener. then the swift drop to a piano melody at about 3:00 worked brilliantly.

You deserve your 10/10 and every other 10/10!

Respect,

Author's Response:

Hehe... I'll be honest to you: (since I've never learned classical music theory and such) I don't know what are you talking about (dinamics, crescendos, diminuendos...ehm...and such. I hope I don't sound dissapointing to you.../: )

I always try to give my best and develope with every new track. Whit this one I think I've achieved my aims. I'm really glad you liked this one thanks for your kind words and the points.

submission: [Dud] Dreams

I Actually wanted to give you an 9.5/10 it was a brilliance piece and you should be commentated on its length and colorfulness, to construct such a long song without looping the same thing over and over again... awesome stuff man.

My only criticism is as usual, not ENOUGH dynamics, yes there are obviously plenty throughout the piece but as i have been saying often for many entries, there are no intricate dynamics at times that there could be a little more.

5/5 and 9.5/10 from me

Author's Response:

Thanks for the nice words :)

But it would've been nice if you wrote me where exactly the dynamics were missing in your opinion.
You seem to emphasize on dynamic as I can see^^. Not a bad thing though I've left them out for long.
Although I think especially this song has a lot of those moments. You could look at the song before this one, perhaps it fits you better ;).

"LMAO, so playful"

date: April 25, 2008

As soon as it started the song felt cheeky, almost as if the bird knew what it was doing! Some brilliance dynamics, and it's mainly seen in the bass/harmony lines. Another example of how dynamics can be used on NG! I feel as though I'm going to have to become a Nazi about something else :-(. but not for you ^^

Brilliant piece, can't wait to hear more!

Respect.

P.S. loved the inclusion of the electric guitar!

April 25, 2008

Author's Response:

Thank you very much. This was one of my favorite pieces to work. Thanks for the comments on dynamics..it shows you listened intently. And I'm glad you liked the guitar...ever since I heard The Perfect Storm soundtrack I loved the guitar in styles like this.

"Dynamic Nazi >ME<"

submission: Tremble
date: April 25, 2008

9/10, Why, because it was a brilliant piece of music that excited me and left me begging for more, but another 2 hours was needed on top of the six to perfect the dynamics, THEN you would have had a masterpiece! There were dynamics throughout the piece, the crescendo from the beginning as the song picks up, the string section had tiny bit i think, but I'm just hanging out for some intricate dynamics. though there were some brilliant examples around 2.00 where the piece changes from a strong staccato to a very languid feeling, a very smooth legato.

PEOPLE, LEARN FROM THIS DUDE!

DaJazzMan

"Nice, but not classical."

date: April 24, 2008

It was a nice light rock piece. I say light rock because classical music is defined by its beat. A classical piece that has a 4/4 time signature will have an emphasis on the first and third beats, unlike rock that has an emphasis on the second and forth beats, it's what helps drive the song forward.

As I said, nice, but not classical. Loops well though, need a bit more dynamics.

Lester Burnham: I feel like I've been in a coma for the past twenty years. And I'm just now waking up.

The quote is from the protagonist in American Beauty. I put it there because this piece reminds me of the final piece in the movie. I love the arpeggios at the end of the piece, I love the serene melody at the start that just carries you on by the tip of a needle. The dynamics are perfect, they carry the piece so well. Another example of how there can be composers on NG that use dynamics! THANK-YOU for setting and example!

Brilliant piece, can't wait to hear a longer one.

Respect,
DaJazzMAn

P.S. Shenkhar, I'm quite glad you didn't give a submission 10/10 for the sake of it like most people, but i would like to know why you gave it a 7. Thanks ^^

Author's Response:

Thanks!
im getting on the piano again and starting to get a song in my head, its going to be more of a live piece than this was. This was loops of the piano, next one will be playable without 3 people.
